My Story
For thousands of years copper-base metals have been used by cultures around the world because of their availability, beauty, permanence, and rich lustrous surfaces that can be achieved. My works are constructed in bronze, brass, and copper. I use traditional metalsmithing techniques such as hot forging, drawing [stretching], and upsetting [compressing]. Because the materials are malleable yet strong, any shape can be made directly with sufficient experience and creative methods. The colors are achieved by hot-patination processes, and are permanent. They are fine outdoors.
My themes range from traditional to contemporary dynamic forms. But whatever the idea, all the individual elements contribute to an overall unified concept. Each sculpture is individually hand-crafted from beginning to end, and as a result, no two are identical. Creating and watching my sculptures evolve gives me great personal satisfaction. I am also surprised and impressed by how people interpret and sometimes title my pieces. I am a second generation sculptor, and have been perfecting my skill in this medium since 1973. My current work is a culmination of all those years of experience.
